Andromeda Vinda Tonks (née Black; 14 September 1953) is the middle daughter of Cygnus and Druella Rosier, the wife of Edward Tonks, mother of Nymphadora Tonks, grandmother of Edward Tonks II, younger sister of Bellatrix Lestrange and older sister of Narcissa Malfoy.
Biography
Childhood
She was born in 1953 to the wealthy Cygnus Black and Druella Rosier. Her father was a ministry employee for the international wizarding council, representing France. She was the middle of three sisters, the eldest being Bellatrix (1951) and the youngest being Narcissa (1955). In her childhood, she was quite close to her sisters and they often were a united front against their verbally and emotionally abusive father. She was also close to her cousin Sirius Black (1960) and preferred him to other family members.
Hogwarts
Andromeda was accepted into Hogwarts and sorted into Slytherin House in 1965. Unlike her sisters, who both exclusively befriended other members from Slytherin, Andromeda was very social and befriended members of other houses. In her final year, she started dating her friend Edward Tonks, a Hufflepuff and a muggleborn.
First Wizarding War (1970-1981)
Andromeda lied to her family, saying she had a job at Gringotts, while in fact she was secretly carrying on an affair with Edward Tonks. She disapproved of Bellatrix' increasing Death Eater activities and slowly drifted away from her family.
When her sisters found her seeing Ted, a duel erupted in which Andromeda fought against and beat Bellatrix. After this, she eloped with Ted and never saw her family again. In 1973, Andromeda gave birth to her daughter Nymphadora, whose name she picked.
She raised her daughter through the war and was sad to hear her sister Bellatrix was sentenced to Azkaban for torturing Frank and Alice Longbottom.
Second Wizarding War (1994-1998)
In the second wizarding war, Ted and Andromeda were active members of the Order of the Phoenix, as was their daughter Nymphadora, who was additionally also an Auror. She assisted Harry Potter in fleeing the Dursley's, and helped Remus Lupin find a family when he became her son-in-law. She delivered her grandson, named after her husband who had gone missing. Her husband was later killed by Fenrir Greyback. In the battle of Hogwarts (1998), Andromeda also lost Remus and her daughter Nymphadora, who was killed by Andromeda's sister Bellatrix.
Andromeda had no time to mourn her husband, daughter, sister and son-in-law, as she was now responsible for raising her grandson Teddy Lupin.
Appearance
Andromeda has auburn hair and brown eyes. She is said to look like her sister Bellatrix, only with a lighter coloring and sweeter smile.
Personality
Andromeda is tough, resourceful, loving, caring and not prejudiced against muggleborns and muggles in general.
